Autoliv Upgrades to a Modern Workforce Management System
Autoliv is the world’s largest automotive safety supplier, with sales to all major car manufacturers globally and more than 68,000 workers across 27 countries.
Without streamlined time and attendance processes, Autoliv’s workers struggled with inefficiencies and inaccuracies that increased administrative burden.
Even though they were using various software like SharePoint and Kronos, none fulfilled the technological requirements of a modern workforce. Their HR management tasks were still manually done, including group calendars, time-off requests and payouts. Labour costs on job orders were often inaccurate due to system constraints in communicating with project costing systems.
The team at Autoliv implemented the WorkForce Suite in the US, Canada, and Mexico in 2019, streamlining and automating time-off banks and time and attendance processes for 16,500 employees with language support in English and Spanish.

The WorkForce Suite eliminated all costs associated with internally hosting the previous on-premise Kronos legacy system. Autoliv expects to see additional savings in hourly labour costs and unplanned overtime expenses due to improved time approval processes, data accuracy and real-time overtime management.
Improved Data and Compliance
Timecard data can no longer be overwritten while subsequent versions are saved in the new system, significantly improving data integrity. The system also enforces adherence to statutory and Union ESA and CBA-based pay rules, improving compliance and reducing employee claims/grievances risk.
Happier, More Efficient Employees
Employees were delighted with the real-time visibility of time and attendance information at the clocks. Autoliv plans to add self-service functionality to more clocks in the coming year and continue to improve time savings and efficiencies with time-off requests.
Reduced Administrative Tasks
Significantly reduced manually reviewing, validating, fixing, and approving employee timecards and time-off requests — which means more accurate time coding and proper pay for employees. Reports and analytics proved to be of significant value for managers and administrators, improving accuracy due to assigning labour costs to work orders.
Improve Payroll Efficiency
Time-off banks have improved efficiency by showing Autoliv’s three vacation banks separately. Time-off banks also enable scheduled vacation purchase accruals to match with deductions in the payroll system and automatically payout.
