Gartner® Market Guide for Workforce Management Applications Praises Modern WFM Suites

WFM Becomes a Way for Organisations to Differentiate and Transform Their Business

As technology advances and workforce management continues to incorporate AI and EX, WFM has grown from a system of record and operation into a system of differentiation and transformation.

Gartner Market Guide for Workforce Management Applications notes that “organisations with many hourly and blue-collar workers are continuing to invest in WFM applications to transform the employee experience, as part of HCM technology and digital workplace transformation initiatives.”

The report states that “by 2025, 80% of large enterprises with hourly paid workers will have invested in WFM to support employee experience and/or digital workplace initiatives.”

The complicated logistics of safely bringing workers back to offices has also piqued interest in WFM for use beyond typical hourly workers, while issues around compliance with changing legislation and standardising processes have also caused employers of salaried and non-shift based workforces to embrace the operational benefits of a WFM solution.

According to the report, Gartner has observed increased activity in the WFM market from “new work hub” application vendors that we feel is geared towards the needs of desked workers, while existing WFM vendors have been focusing on expanding the employee experience and communication capabilities of their products for both desked and deskless employee populations—like WorkForce Software’s own WorkForce Experience.

An anatomy of the properties of the WFM market

To meet the current demands of organisations in the midst of a pandemic, modern WFM needs to include capabilities that “reduce the risk of infection” (touchless clock-in/out, health check surveys, contact tracing, task management), “support employee communications” (messaging, learning, surveys), “enable and support flexible working” (configurable employee preferences, shift swapping), and “scale to recovery and/or surge growth” (labor forecasting, analytics).

Read this Gartner research to learn why a robust WFM suite with strong overall functionality, depth, and broad industry usage is preferable to an HCM vendor for organisations that want to stay at the forefront of workforce innovation.
