2022 Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Human Capital Management Technology Shows Surging Investment Trend
Next-Gen Workforce Management (WFM) and Frontline Worker Employee Experience Technology (EXTech) Are High Priorities
Gartner has released their Hype Cycle for Human Capital Management Technology, 2022, which states, “This Hype Cycle informs application leaders who are supporting HCM technology transformations about the latest technological innovations on the market. It will help them prioritise investments by providing insights into the maturity of key applications and technologies.”
This Hype Cycle demonstrates that in the next two to three years, more large enterprises are emphasising their investment in HCM technologies. Application leaders need to evaluate both their current and expected future capabilities when considering which technologies to deploy, alongside integration and interoperability with existing solutions.
“By the end of 2025, 35% of large enterprise
organisations will have a dedicated budget for
HCM technology innovation, up from 10% today.”
Hand in hand with next-gen workforce management (WFM)—scalable, secure and consumer-grade time, task management and rostering that operate in the flow of work to achieve operating results through worker effectiveness, automation and optimisation—is the surging focus on frontline workers’ employee experience and dedicated technological innovations for that purpose. Primarily designed for use via smartphones and tablets, this frontline employee experience technology (EXTech) delivers distinctive employee experiences and a sense of community.
For those with a primary focus on deskless shift workers, be sure to check out these two must-read sections: “Frontline Worker EXTech” (pp. 11–14) and “Next-Gen WFM” (pp. 82–84).
Drivers from the Report:
“Inclusion of WFM as part of a wider digitalisation/digital workplace/employee experience initiative
Inclusion of WFM as part of a wider HCM/payroll transformation
Work with operations, finance, procurement and HR leaders to ensure that their organisation’s WFM requirements reflect an updated and holistic perspective that incorporates the needs of workers, managers, administrative staff and executives.
The ransomware attack on and subsequent outage of the Kronos Private Cloud (KPC) in December 2021, which affected 2,000 enterprise clients, is likely to lead to a refresh this (and similar era) products.”
In the face of proliferating HCM innovations, it is imperative for application leaders to understand both the state-of-the-art offerings and expected HCM trends. Such knowledge can be incredibly valuable to organisations currently making tough decisions on workforce management solutions—and should yield significant benefits in the years to come.
